The Tasaineri valley climbs up from Palù del Fersina towards the Palù pass, which connects the Mocheni valley with the Calamento valley; it is a valley that always has powdery snow in store due to its exposure for a wonderful skitouring trip.

It is always advisable to consult the snow and weather bulletins on the website www.meteotrentino.it and to contact the local section of the Italian Alpine Club, the SAT of Pergine to get up-to-date information on the snowpack

Palù del Fersina in val dei Mocheni

The starting point is Palù del Fersina, the small municipality at the top of the valley which brings together a series of masi (farmsteads); it is the main town in the valley, it is little more than a hamlet and the seat of the Mocheno Cultural Institute. After Palù the road stops at Frotten (Vrottn in the Mocheno language) where there is a large car park (with a camper van area); here you can also enjoy a coffee in the morning and sandwiches or a strauben (a typical fried cake) with cranberry jam in the little wooden house. There is a charge for parking. It is advisable not to park along the steep, narrow road.

From the car park, follow the road (which is often shoveled) until you come to the E370 trail that leads to Passo Palù; here we kept to the ridge between the two valleys and then chose the best side for the ski descent.

Given the ideal conditions, we then moved northwards on this ski mountaineering itinerary, descending into Val Calamento; this is part of the itinerary towards Monte Croce, in a very cold area and always with powdery snow until spring.
